Letter from the Chair

My name is Bob Powers. I am the 2004-2005 Chairman for the IAI Forensic Art Sub-committee. I was appointed as the Program Chairman at  the 2002 IAI International Conference held August 4-10, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada.I know that those of you who attended will agree the 2001 Conference in Miami was a great success and presented an interesting program geared to the Forensic Art discipline.  Delegates enjoyed a great workshop session with Gloria Nusse on sculpting a child's face; teaching seminars by renowned educators Dr. Ron Fisher on the Cognitive Interview and Dr. Bob George on the Geometry of the Face.   Also given were informative presentations by Glenn Miller, Peter Bennett and Teresa Redmon on the benefits of computer usage for Facial Identification and Lois Gibson on the Proportions of the Face.

The purpose for this e-mail message is to contact as many IAI Forensic Artists as possible and to give the opportunity for ideas to be submitted as to the types of workshops, seminars or other program items YOU would like to be incorporated within next years program. You may have a presentation of your own that you feel would be of interest and which could be reviewed.
Be creative!!

Don't forget, there are four general areas included in the discipline: Composite Imagery, Image Modification, Demonstrative Evidence and Reconstruction and Postmortem Identification Aids.  My goal is to have at least one workshop and/or seminar for each.

I am certain that each of us has wished for an opportunity to further our education, hear a particular speaker, attend a workshop or become exposed to new ideas.  I can tell you from experience that those opportunities do not come often.  This  years IAI Conference in Dallas could be that opportunity, to try and meet everyone's needs.

I would therefore very much appreciate hearing from you with any ideas you might have.   I know July of 2005 may appear a long way off but time passes rapidly in preparation for the Conference and the program needs to be set months earlier.  My promise is to attempt to satisfy the wishes of the people who will attend this conference, hoping it will be enjoyable, informative and help us all to move forward with our skills and knowledge in this especially important discipline.
